Although the ruling does not force ECB to change course immediately, it undermines the central bank’s credibility and opens it to legal challenges in the future. The ruling also makes it unclear whether the Bundesbank can continue to extend *credits* indefinitely to fellow central banks through the ECB’s internal Target2 nexus.
